History of Waves, NC
Wave is part of the tri-villages, formerly known as Chicamacomico. In 1939, the Post Office changed the name to Waves to better identify the villages. Even today, it is still difficult to tell where one of the tri-village ends and the other begins. Development came to the town after the Herbert C Bonner Bridge opened to the public in the 1960s and so after more homes began popping up in the 1980s. The town offers enough housing for vacationers, without feeling too crowded in the summer months.
